SIMULATE’s mission is to upgrade the world to a positive food system.
SIMULATE is currently developing new nutrition technologies, utilizing fiber biomaterial technology to make animal-free products that are indistinguishable from animal-based meat.
Position Overview: This will be an onsite, hands-on role, based out of our Brooklyn lab. The Product Developer will be responsible for driving the creation and optimization of our food products from concept through to market launch.
- Develop new flavors, formulations, cooking methods, and recipes that improve organoleptic and nutritional qualities.
- Own organoleptic & microbial shelf-life testing.
- Keep meticulous records of product formula and process iterations, clearly present findings, explain trends in the product development process, and write detailed and accurate reports for analyses.
- Lead evaluation of product quality (through sensory and analytical characterization) in response to upstream and downstream changes in the spinning line. Support the team in running experiments.
- Conduct review of scientific or other literature to maintain and improve laboratory knowledge/skills. Source new ingredients and find solutions to barriers in product development whether they are ingredients-based or process based.
- Ensure the success of R&D production campaigns by ensuring proper batching and packaging, and QA-ing products through sensory and analytical characterization.
- Provide product and processing input and help in selection and evaluation of molding, grilling, cooking, marination, freezing, and packaging equipment, as well as the related space planning.
- Manage the time of part-time or full-time technicians to ensure success and safety of production and R&D line experiments.
- Ensure products meet sensory and analytical specifications when translated to pilot and scaled production.
- From time to time work cross functionally with other Ahimsa portfolio companies and functions.
- Perform other duties related to product development and scale up as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Inquisitive and creative; obsessed with problem solving and building a super high-quality product.
- Collaborative working style and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams
- 3+ years of experience in food product development, with a strong background in food science and/or culinary development.
- Hands-on experience with scaling up food products from lab to production scale.
- Organized, with good time management, project management, and record-keeping skills.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using data to drive decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Salary
- $100,000 - $125,000 + equity + benefits
