Senior Research Associate
The Bezos Earth Fund is committed to speed up and scale up decarbonization outcomes. To inform its strategy and investment decisions, the Earth Fund is looking for a senior research associate to help estimate GHG impacts from its existing portfolio and potential future grants, as well as inform broader grantmaking work on decarbonization pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
The Bezos Earth Fund is seeking a Senior Research Associate to conduct analysis on GHG impacts from its existing and prospective grantmaking portfolio to inform the Fund’s strategic direction and support the effective allocation of resources to address climate change. In addition, the researcher will support the Earth Fund’s broader decarbonization grantmaking efforts. The position requires an adept researcher who can help the Earth Fund refine its strategies for maximum impact.
The position will report to the Director of Decarbonization Pathways and work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Lead and the Chief of Science, Data and Systems Change. The Senior Research Associate will have the following responsibilities:
Liaise with grant leads and grantees to estimate the GHG impacts of their grant portfolios
Assess and develop tools specifically to estimate GHG impacts of the Earth Fund’s existing and prospective grantmaking portfolio
Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Lead to assess and communicate GHG impacts of the Earth Fund’s grants internally and externally
Collaborate with grant leads to understand the broader implications (e.g., deployment, energy, investment, jobs) of current and potential grants and workstreams
Support grantmaking to advance work on decarbonization pathways, including scenario analysis and analytical methods for decarbonization analysis (e.g., energy modeling, economic modeling, land use modeling, integrated assessment modeling)
Stay informed of the latest knowledge, analysis, and research related to GHG estimation, accounting, and decarbonization pathways
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and experience:
Master’s Degree required in environmental science or policy with knowledge of climate issues
At least 5 years of full-time work experience on climate-related issues
Skills and abilities:
Proven track record of using quantitative methods to assess the decarbonization characteristics (GHGs, deployment rates, jobs) from a variety of types of decarbonization interventions
Strong quantitative research skills
Proven ability to deliver high-quality work
Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
Great attention to details and ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines
Exceptional written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Project planning and management skills
Demonstrated passion for the Bezos Earth Fund’s mission
Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple assignments at one time
Friendly, positive demeanor and determined attitude
Ability to collaborate with teams
Capable of working with minimal direction and supervision
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines
This position is located in Washington, D.C.
May undertake limited domestic and/or international travel (less than 10% time)
Salary Range: $110,000- $135,000
