Clever Carnivore is a mission-driven start-up looking to bring low-cost, top-quality cultivated pork to the consumer market utilizing stem cell biology, recombinant protein technology, and advanced bioreactor engineering.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a well-rounded and innovative bioprocess scientist/engineer to join our cross-functional cell biology team. The team member will contribute to lab-scale bioprocess and media development, ranging from 100 mL to 10L vessels.
Education:
Preferred MS or PhD in biotechnology/bioprocess engineering, chemical/biological engineering, or a related life science field.
Responsibilities:
Maintain, build, sterilize, and operate benchtop bioreactors
Operate bioreactor control systems
Design and execute high quality laboratory research in suspension cultures
Perform day-to-day cell culture including maintenance and passaging of multiple mammalian cell lines
Acquire, document, interpret, and analyze data independently
Support the tech transfer of products from R&D to manufacturing
Support the drafting of standard operating procedures, reports, development plans, and other technical documents
Collaborate with other groups at the company
Summarize quantitative data and present it in a clear and concise manner to other lab members and leadership teams
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in bioprocess development, mammalian cell preferred
A comprehensive understanding of bioprocess principles
Experience in culturing mammalian cell lines in a sterile environment
Working evenings and weekends as needed to meet operational requirements
Compensation:
Salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s experience, qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. In addition, Clever Carnivore offers certain benefits to eligible employees, including paid time off, medical insurance and dental insurance.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Director of Cell Biology in the R&D department. Applicants must be able to work full-time, in-person at our Chicago, IL headquarters. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
