Director of Accounting and Finance
Davis, CA | Full-Time
Salary Range: $135k - $165k base salary plus a bonus opportunity, equity in the company and benefits.
Role Description
We are searching for a dynamic financial leader to join our team and help shape and manage the company's accounting, finance and compliance operations. As an integral part of our rapidly expanding team, the Director of Accounting and Finance will have responsibility for overseeing the accounting functions and collaborating closely with the CFO on financial planning, budgeting, and strategic analysis. This role presents an exciting opportunity to assemble and lead a team as the company continues to grow, initially with support of an external accounting firm, with the goal of transitioning to and building an in-house team within the next 12 months.
Role & Responsibilities
● Oversee all accounting activities, including daily, weekly and monthly accounting and reporting processes to internal and external stakeholders
● Maintain cash forecasting; bank reconciliations, and treasury management.
● Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring they meet GAAP standards and reporting requirements.
● Drive monthly financial close activities ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
● Collaborate with the executive team to establish and monitor financial benchmarks, budgets, and management reporting tools.
● Lead annual budget process and monthly variance reviews with all budget owners.
● Work in partnership with the CFO to build and maintain flexible multi-year financial models.
● Manage internal financial analysis and all internal financial reporting including materials for the Board of Directors and other external stakeholders.
● Develop and maintain internal control safeguards to protect our company assets and maintain a secure operating environment.
● Drive the development and implementation of strategies to improve accounting operational efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability, including policies, processes, and system changes.
● Own all system automation and implementation projects - accounting system, payable systems, treasury systems, etc.
● Coordinate and support all tax and regulatory reporting requirements.
Requirements:
● CPG and/or food tech experience required
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
● 10+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally in an early stage environment
● High proficiency in MS Excel and various accounting and ERP systems.
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, working closely with executives and team members.
● Enjoys and understands the environment of a scrappy and lean growth company, where no job is too small.
● Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience across accounting and FP&A functions
● Experience with Quickbooks, NetSuite, or similar accounting software.
● CPA (Active or Inactive) and/or MBA.
