Job Description
Oobli is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate to join our Analytical Sciences team. This role will focus on supporting the development and execution of HPLC and MS methods for analyzing proteins in samples from all stages of our sweet protein platform from strain engineering through final purified ingredient. The Analytical Sciences team supports core research and development, scale-up and commercialization of our sweet protein ingredients and food products. The ideal candidate will have a background in analytical chemistry or biochemistry with some experience working in HPLC and/or MS for the quantitation and characterization of biomolecules. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher looking to gain hands-on experience in analytical chemistry techniques within a dynamic and innovative company. This position will report to the Protein Analytical Chemist.
Role & Responsibilities
- Assist in the execution of analytical methods for identifying, characterizing, and quantifying proteins in complex matrices using techniques such as HPLC/UHPLC and LC-MS
- Conduct routine sample processing and analysis to support Strain Engineering, Fermentation, Downstream Processing, and Production teams
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment under supervision
- Collaborate with team members to efficiently manage laboratory workflows and instrument resources
- Utilize chromatography data systems and electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) to document sample processing, method development, and experimental results
- Analyze data and generate reports to support research initiatives and process improvements
- Communicate findings effectively through technical reports and team discussions
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory
- Familiarity with HPLC-based techniques
- Basic understanding of mass spectrometry and other analytical methods for biomolecule characterization
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
