International Fragrances & Flavors Inc (IFF) is looking for a global automation engineer. The automation Engineer is responsible for implementing and supporting various Automation initiatives in a manufacturing environment. In this position, the Global Automation Engineer will lead efforts to increase the safety and quality of our manufacturing systems while optimizing production efficiency through process control and technology improvements. The Global Automation Engineer will be part of the Shopfloor Improvement Organization and support manufacturing operations, continuous improvement and capital projects.
Core responsibilities – Operations & Project Support (80-100%)
- Manage automation projects (the definition, commissioning, Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and roll out of automation/Robotic systems in the whole spectrum of hardware from server to PLC to Handhelds) within operations
- Be the operational/automation spokesmen in the definition of hardware and software standards, installation methods & procedures and fallback scenarios, as well as regional / global projects for hard- or software upgrades to ensure compatibility with safety & regulatory (e.g., ATEX or Operating systems).
- Provide remote support regarding OT (PLC’s, robots, conveyors, automation) and/or IT (workstations, Servers, Handhelds etc.) within operations.
Other responsibilities – Continuous improvement & Digitalization (0-20%)
- Assist in Global Digitization projects
- Coordinate and Support IT during server upgrades and patching
Qualifications
- Master or bachelor’s degree in Computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, or other similar field
- At least 5 years working experience in a project management role that requires strong interaction with a variety of stakeholders in an international environment.
- Experience with MES, industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA systems and PLCs
- Experience with or at least good understanding of:
- Microsoft Operating Systems (Win10/11, Win Server 20XX),
- Virtual Machine management (HyperV, VMWare/ESXi)
- Database applications (SQLserver)
- Remote Desktop application (RDP)
- Computer Networking
- Regular global travel will be required up to 25% of the time
Soft skills
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong affinity for process engineering in a production environment
- Demonstrated English language verbal, written, analytical skills as well as ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
- Project organizational skills e.g. Prince II
